Recognising this, WWF-Malaysia is involved in a wide range of community-based activities, from awareness-building and grassroots conservation programmes, to comprehensive community-based participation and mobilisation towards sustainable management of natural resources in specific priority sites.
WWF-Malaysia’s community-based education programmes are aimed at a variety of target audiences, including
- defined target groups such as FELDA officers and plantation owners in our Tiger Conservation Programme;
- chalet operators in the Turtle Conservation Programme in Melaka;
- school children in the Green Turtle Conservation Project in Ma’ Daerah;
- local communities of the Lower Kinabatangan River in the Kinabatangan - Corridor of Life Project;
- coastal communities and local fishermen in our Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion Programme; and
- highland community members of Fraser’s Hill.
