It was around 3pm at our Kerteh office when we received a call from a personnel of the TNB Power Station in Paka informing of a turtle spotted in the TNB retention pond. Immediately, we informed the Department of Fisheries (DoF) before we abandoned our work to rush there.

Their trip into Temengor Forest Reserve was the shortest one yet. The food and fuel they stored in the village a few weeks ago were gone. Their vehicle kept slip-sliding down treacherous muddy roads after heavy downpours. Nevertheless, the four of them came out of the forest buzzing with excitement; they had video clips of tigers!

Kids for Tigers calendar for sale

As part of our ‘Sehari Mengenali Harimau’ (Getting to know the tiger) programme, the children came up with truly inspiring pieces of art. A handful of the almost 600 pieces have now been immortalised in a special edition desktop calendar. It is available for sale and all proceeds from the sale will go directly towards supporting more outreach programmes in other wildmeat hotspots.

Tiger Awareness and Conservation Outreach Programme in Kahang

The Malaysian Conservation Alliance for Tigers (MYCAT), the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) and Johor National Parks Corporation (JNPC) made history in August, with the
first Mandarin-language tiger conservation outreach programme held in SRJK (C) Kahang, Johor.

Raids on exotic meat restaurants lead to seizures, arrests

In a late night operation on 6 July 2007, wildlife authorities raided 10 restaurants in Kahang, a town in the southern Malaysian state of Johor, seizing more than 300kg of meat of several wildlife species. Kahang is the gateway to Endau Rompin National Park, one of three priority tiger conservation sites in Malaysia.
