Boh Plantations
Local tea manufacturer, Boh Plantations, is supporting WWF’s reforestation initiative in the Lower Kinabatangan area of Sabah.

To help conserve the orang-utan, WWF-Malaysia began its HABITAT (Rehabilitation of Orang-utan’s Habitat) project in 2003, to improve orang-utan habitat and generate greater food sources for them in Sabah’s Lower Kinabatangan region. Replanting forest trees in degraded areas will also enrich “wildlife corridors” that reconnect gaps in the forest, giving orang-utans and other animals greater mobility to feed, hunt or find mates over a wider area.

With generous support from BOH Plantations Sdn Bhd since 2005, 14,100 trees were replanted, restoring an area measuring about 5 hectares by July 2006. BOH Plantations Sdn Bhd, Big Tree Outdoor Sdn Bhd and RAPID KL also helped launch WWF-Malaysia’s first community service message on an LRT train in August 2005. Covered with pictures and information about orang-utans, the train educates thousands of commuters every day on the importance of orang-utan conservation

In March 2008, BOH & WWF-Malaysia held a two-day event, Tea for Trees, to raise awareness among the Malaysian public about the plight of the orang-utans. Through Tea for Trees, Malaysians had the chance to adopt a tree for the orang-utans. Trees that were adopted were planted in lower Kinabatangan, as part of WWF’s reforestation efforts in that area. Thanks to the overwhelming response we received, a total of 700 trees were adopted during Tea for Trees.
