WWF-Malaysia works with local and indigenous communities in nine project sites across Malaysia, from the rainforests of Belum-Temengor, to the highlands of Sarawak and islands off Semporna.
-
Empowered communities are stewards of the environment, and can not only help to protect nature but also secure their own livelihoods, wellbeing and culture.
As the threats to nature become more severe, communities who rely on the environment for food, water, medicines and building materials, also find life becoming increasingly difficult.
The major challenges faced by communities are:
- Declining wildlife and fish stocks
- Health issues from the pollution of rivers and seas.
- Threats to safety from poachers and encroachers.
- Human-wildlife conflict.
- Loss of livelihoods and income.
- Erosion of cultures and traditions.
Our community frontliners urgently need support. Your important donations will help WWF-Malaysia partner with communities to:
- Carry out training, education and awareness programmes.
- Increase community-based monitoring and patrolling for species protection.
- Build sustainable community livelihoods and enterprises.
- Promote learning exchanges and strengthen community networks.
- Empower communities in decision-making and planning processes.
