Poaching for illegal commercial trade is the greatest and most urgent threat to tigers and other wildlife in Malaysia, followed by loss and fragmentation of forests. The use of tiger parts in Chinese traditional medicine has become one of the main drivers which have led to the endangerment of wild tigers. There is no scientific justification that shows that tiger parts contain healing properties. The poaching situation is escalating so much so that wildlife trafficking is the third most globally illicit commodity after drugs and weapons.
